Since Judith DeLany, LMT, began teaching NeuroMuscular Therapy in 1984, she has emerged as a leading pioneer in the field of NMT. As a result of many years as a clinician and educator, Judith refined and developed methods of teaching the American version of NMT. She is the founder and director of the International Academy of NeuroMuscular Therapies, a certifying body that sets standards for the training of healthcare practitioners in the use of NMT.
Judith is the Director of the NMT Center, an educational/training organization that produces 80+ NMT events nationwide and internationally each year for the healthcare industry. Licensed Massage Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurse Massage Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Chiropractors, and Dentists alike benefit from the curriculum and hands-on techniques of the NMT workshops. The NMT Center school program, developed by DeLany, incorporates NMT into school curricula so that the student graduates fully trained and certified in NeuroMuscular Therapy.
As an internationally recognized speaker on such topics as chronic pain and myofascial dysfunction, Judith has served as a presenter and/or keynote speaker at numerous conventions and conferences in various fields of medicine. She has been awarded recognition for legislative work as well as outstanding instruction.Click here for a list of special presentations.
A published author of manuals and articles on pain management, Judith also contributed the American version of NMT to Dr. Leon Chaitow's book Modern Neuromuscular Techniques (Churchill Livingstone Publishers). She and Dr. Chaitow have co-authored two textbooks for neuromuscular therapy, Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques (vol. 1 The Upper Body, vol. 2 The Lower Body), as well as the accompanying study guide Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques Case Study Exercises (Elsevier). She has also contributed a chapter on NMT to Principles and Practices of Manual Medicine ( Pat Coughlin, MD, ed.) and a contribution on NMT to Touch Abilities Essential Connections (Iris Burman, Sandy Friedland). Judith served for twelve years as Associate Editor for the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (a peer reviewed journal) in addition to being a contributing writer to that journal and others. She currently serves on JBMT's advisory board.
Judith has been awarded the "1999 Massage Therapist of the Year" award by the Florida Chiropractic Association and has received recognition for outstanding instruction as well as legislative efforts. Judith continues her mission as a spokesperson to all healthcare professions regarding massage therapy.
As a visionary, her primary focus is the advancement of education in all healthcare professions to include soft tissue care and the myofascial treatment of chronic pain syndromes. Listen to an interview now.
